- Musheng Chen wins composition prize
[posted 7 December 2009]The thirteenth year of the Dimitris Mitropoulos International Competition, organized by the Orchestra of Colours in collaboration with the Athens Concert Hall, was completed with the prizewinners’ concert, held on November 6, 2009 as a public concert in the Athens Concert Hall.
Five works for symphony orchestra, which were composed especially for this Competition, were premiered by the Orchestra of Colours under the direction of Miltos Logiadis. These works had been preselected by a jury from among 75 entries. The international jury, consisting of Theodore Antoniou, Alkis Baltas, George Couroupos, Christian Jost, George Koumendakis and José Manuel López López, and presided over by Zygmunt Krauze. "Dream Variations II" a work for orchestra by chinese composer Musheng CHEN, has earned the first prize of the prestigious Mitropoulos International Composition prize.

- Composer Musheng Chen won composition prize of Tarragona city
[posted 20 December 2007]The International Musical Composition Prize of Tarragona City was awarded to the score "Dream variation" for orchestra by Chinese composer Musheng Chen.
Born in the Chinese province of Zhejiang in 1971 and professor at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, the composer will receive the 12,000 euro prize.
In addition, the winning work will be released during the year 2008 by the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra National and Catalonia (OBC).The jury chose the winner from among a total of 110 scores filed, a share higher than in the call for 2006, in which 99 works chose to compete. The scores came from 29 different countries of the five continents.

Musheng Chen was born in the province of Zhejiang in the south east of China. Today he is considered as one of the most remarkable Chinese composers of his generation.
From 1993 to 1998 he studied at the Shanghai Conservatory, with Chinese masters Chen Ming-zhi (fugue), Yang li-qing (orchestration), Zhao Xiao-Sheng (composition) etc. In October 2000/04 he settled in Geneva where he undertook composition studies in the class of Eric Gaudibert at the Conservatory of Geneva, parallel to this he attended in 2003/04 a master class held by Klaus Huber in Lugano. From 2004 to 2005 he lived in Paris as a composer in residence at the Cité International des Arts.
Since the premiere of his concert-portrait «Ch´an (Suite)» took place at the Radio DRS2 in January 2002 in Bern, the music of Musheng gained a considerable public audience. His works have been performed at several festivals and concerts throughout Europe and Asia. His future commissions include: a chamber composition by Berlin Philharmonic, a flute concerto for Maestro P-Y Artaud by the French State, a new opera San Qi Ju (libretto by Christopher Park) by the Geneva City, an orchestra piece by Shanghai Conservatory Orchestra for its tour of the Germany.
He has received numerous international prizes and awards including: first honorary mention form the Accademia Costantiniana in Roma, first Grand prize of the Concours Dutilleux, first Grand prize form the Academie de Lutèce in Paris. He’s also winner of the “Queen Elisabeth Competition” in Belgium, the Amsterdam Nieuw Ensemble Chinese composer competition, “Young Artiste Award” from the Geneva City and Patino Foundation, etc.
Musheng is member of the Swiss Musician Association (ASM) and SUISA. His some scores publish by the Alphonse Leduc Editions in Paris. He is currently teaching at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.
