Biography
"A profound individual with beyond the ordinary sense of musicality", Constantine Caravassilis has been under the spell of composition for many years. Born in Toronto in a musical family, he grew up in Samos Island, Greece and received his first violin lesson at the age of 6. He returned to Canada at the age of 17 to pursue studies in music and since then he has appeared and performed and pianist and conductor in some 60 venues, while attending The Royal Conservatory of Music, York University and the music Faculties of the University of Toronto and the University of Manitoba.
Constantine’s compositions have reached the three digits and they have been presented in many countries around the world, broadcasted by BBC 3 and CBC. Recent commissions include a chamber opera for the university of Manitoba’s Contemporary Opera Lab and Symphony Orchestra, Mezzo Ariana Chris, and German pianist/composer Demosthenes Stephanides, London based Mezzo-Soprano Alexandra Gravas and Canadian violist Kritjiana Oleson to name a few. During the next season, Constantine will be receiving a handful of premieres.
