Life
Having been much interested in and exposed to abstract visual art from an early age, Marie-Angélique Bueler (b. 1975), opted for composition of music. She graduated from the University of Sussex in 1997 for the degree "Twentieth Century Music Studies", having worked with Martin Butler, Michael Finnissy, Julian Johnson, and James Clapperton. During her MA at York University, which Professor Nicola LeFanu supervised, her music has explored the use of Asian instruments in new music and aspects of "Sonic Pleasure".
Recent performances have included Shiny Blues, performed by the Dutch Ereprijs, Tumbling in Time, an ambitious duet for Western flute and Chinese flute, A Pause in Pelog, performed by Ensemble Bash at the Spitalfields in London and some piano pieces and a Sextet, performed by Rolf Hind and the Schubert Ensemble of London respectively at Dartington International Summer School. ...And Two Determiners, a piano/alto saxophone piece recently won a competition run by Fresh Directions and received its premiere at the BMIC. During July 2000, Boomerang Media have been distributing her piano piece Have A Bash throughout the UK.
