Compositions

Among his compositions are: Whistle for a friend, for flute solo (1980); Display IV, for 6 pianos and piano tuner (1980, rev. 1988); Display V, for 12 violoncellos (1983, rev. 1984) and Thalía, for orchestra (1987, rev. 1988); Self-portrait (with Stephen Heller) for string quintet (1990) and Satz, for violoncello, on a theme by Ludwig Wittgenstein (1990).

Compact Discs

On the CD Twenty grand pianos was his arrangement of the Scherzo à la Russe by Stravinsky released (RN Classics 93005) and on the CD Robby Faverey, Stanley Noordpool & Friends was Dansa released (Attacca Babel 2090).

Pianist and composer. Brother of composer Willem Frederik.


Maarten Bon was born on August 20, 1933 in Amsterdam; he died on October 19th, 2003 in Amsterdam.

Musical education

He studied piano with Johannes Jacobus Raaff (his grandfather), Net Cornelis, Herman Sachs and at the Muzieklyceum in Amsterdam with Jaap Spaanderman and Theo Bruins. Thereafter he continued his studies with Noëmie Perugia (accompagnement de chant), Magda Tagliaferro and Jean Jacques Painchaud (Paris) and Maria Stroo. He also studied bassoon with Anton Mühlenbaumer and Brian Pollard and violin with Dick van der Veen.

He studied composition with Carel Porcelijn, Herman Sachs, Theo Bruins and Kees van Baaren.

Activities

Since 1970, Maarten Bon has been pianist in the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra.
