- 1966 settled down in amsterdam, because of problems with the political situation in the FRG
- 1966-68 assistant at the Instituut voor Sonologie in utrecht, since 1989 its leader
- 1968-73 music journalist for the weekly Vrij Nederland
- 1972 professor for history of music and new music theory
- 1975-79 head of the dutch composer society
- since 1980 leading member of the dutch society for the rights of music performance
- 1986 professor for electronical composition
- since 1989 head of the french Conseil International des Auteurs et Compositeurs de Musique
