Biography

• born 1941 in berlin
• 1959-61 private composition lessons with g.m. koenig
• 1961-66 studied musicology, philosophy, sociology in cologne, 1966 ph.d., dissertation: zur theorie der offenen form in der neuen musik
• 1961-63 assistant at the electronical studio of the german broadcast station WDR
• 1966 settled down in amsterdam, because of problems with the political situation in the FRG
• 1966-68 assistant at the Instituut voor Sonologie in utrecht, since 1989 its leader
• 1968-73 music journalist for the weekly Vrij Nederland
• 1972 professor for history of music and new music theory
• 1975-79 head of the dutch composer society
• since 1980 leading member of the dutch society for the rights of music performance
• 1986 professor for electronical composition
• since 1989 head of the french Conseil International des Auteurs et Compositeurs de Musique
