Music
Bizet’s best-known work is undoubtedly his opera “Carmen”, which he composed not long before he died. He didn’t live long enough to witness the success of it. Another of his operas, which is performed occasionally, is “Les Pêcheurs de Perles” (The Pearl Fishers).
In 1935 Bizet’s symphony in C was discovered. It has four parts: 1. Allegro vivo; 2. Adagio; 3. Allegro Vivace; 4. Allegro Vivace (only on Philips 476 741 7 Australia). It was first played in 1935. (Contribution by <peterblonline.co.uk>.)
