Music

Life

Cathedral and court organist in Vienna. Studied with his father, Andreas Bibl (1797-1878), and later with Simon Sechter. In 1850 he became organist at St. Peter’s Church (Vienna); in 1859 he succeeded his father as organist at St. Stephan’s Cathedral (Vienna). After Sechter retired, Bibl was appointed as organist-designate to the imperial court in 1863, then as a full member in 1875.

This information is derived from the forwords to editions of Bibl’s organ music by Otto Biba, published by Breitkopf & Härtel (Wiesbaden) and Harmonia-Uitgave (Hilversum).
