Born in Boston, raised in Michigan. Studied composition with Paul Creston, Peter Racine Fricker, and Justin Connolly. Published letters include a correspondance with John Cage (David Cope, New Directions in Music, University of California, Santa Cruz.) Recordings on Centaur Records.

Recent Cello Concerto composed for Walter Gray, founding cellist of the Kronos Quartet. The Cello Concerto and Symphony No.3 to be recorded with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra in 2006.
