Life

The composer Alexander Batta was mainly known as a virtuoso cellist. He settled in Paris in 1835. His compositions are mainly demonstrations for his virtuosity, often variations on popular opera melodies.

He was born in Maastricht, Wolfstraat 3. In 1892, when he was still alive, a street in Maastricht was named after him.
