Music

Daniell Batchelar’s music was represented in “Varietie of Lute Lessons”, a collection of lute pieces published in 1610 by Robert Dowland with his father John Dowland, and in Robert’s “A Musicall Banquet”, published in the same year, by “To Plead My Faith”, the only song written by him that survives. Other works by him survive only in Manuscript.

Recordings:

Besides some works on non-composer specific albums, we mention “Daniel Bacheler — The Bachelar’s Delight”, recorded by Paul O’Dette (l) for the label Harmonia Mundi, catalogue no. HMU 907389, which includes: 1. Daniells Jigge; 2. Pavan; 3. Galliard; 4. Galliard; 5. Mounsieurs Almaine; 6. Pavan; 7. Galliard; 8. En me revenant; 9. A Pavin; 10. Galliard; 11. Fin de galliarde; 12. Prelude; 13. Fantasie; 14. A Gallyard “To Plead my faith”; 15. La jeune fillette; 16. Pavan; 17. Galliard; 18. Pavan; 19. A Galliard upon a galliard by John Dowland; 20. Almaine; 21. Courante; 22. Life

This English composer and lutenist was at court in service to Queen Anne (spouse of James I Tudor) in 1605–18. Appointed to the rank of Groom of the Privy Chamber in 1615.

The titles of some of his works suggest a connection with the wealthy and influential Sidney — and Walsingham families.
