His music is generaly serial as twelve-tone, in Turkish scales called "makam" or
scales prepared by himself. In symphonic music he believes that colors are
more important than harmony and form. So orchestration comes first.
Biography
He was born in 1950. At the age of twelve he entered the State Conservatory
in Ankara, Turkey. At the beginning, he studied the violin with Necdet R.
Atak,then he started to study the viola. He graduated in 1971 as a violist.
Meanwhile he took harmony and contrapoint lessons from Ercivan Saydam and
studied hormony, contrapoint and composition with Necil Kazım Akses
(b. 1908, d. 1999).
Nejat Basegmezler is working at the Presidential Symphony Orchestra since 1971
and teaching solfeggio and theory at the State Conservatory in Ankara.
His works are in various categories such as Symphonic, music for childeren,
music for solo or accompanied instrument and music for stage.
