Music

Has composed symphonic music (Simfonieta, 1950; Rhapsody for Orchestra, 1954; Divertimento for String Orchestra, 1959), concertos (Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, 1952; Concerto for Oboe and Orchestra, 1960), film music, chamber music (Nocturne and Scherzo for Piano, 1946; Divertimento for Percussion, Clarinet and Piano, 1958), vocal music.

Life

Studied at the Bucharest Conservatory (1940-1947) with Mihail Jora, Ioan D. Chirescu, George Breazul, Constantin Brailoiu, Vasile Popovici, Ion Ghiga. In parallel, obtained his bachelor’s degree from the Bucharest Commercial Academy (1945).

Assistant, lecturer and associate professor at the Bucharest Conservatory between 1951-1964 (teaching orchestra, orchestration, score reading and orchestral conducting). Conductor and director of the Ensemble of the People’s Council in Bucharest (1953-1954). Permanent conductor (1954-1986) and director (1964-1969) of the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra in Bucharest.

Has presented radio and television programs. Has been on extensive tours as conductor of Romanian and foreign orchestras (over 75 tours in Italy, Austria, Germany, Belgium, France, Luxemburg, England, Ireland, Argentina, Japan, etc. etc.). Jury member for national and international competitions (George Enescu - Bucharest, Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud - Paris, Carl Flesch - London). Has published articles, studies and reviews.

He has been awarded the Order of the Workers, class III (1947) and class II (1960), the titles of Artist Emeritus (1962) and Maestro Emeritus of the Arts (1964), and the Order of Cultural Merit, class II (1966) and class I (1968).
