Biography

(These notes are lifted from the guitarist John Williams.)

Classical guitarist, composer/teacher/virtuoso. From Paraguay Barrios mastered music, literature and philosophy. He spoke several languages, wrote poetry and is thought to be possiby first to record the Bach lute suites. His compositions have unique elements of baroque and romantic mixed with his own very musical sound. Barrios taught guitar at the National Conservatorie in San Salvador. Imagine hearing a Bach lute recital delivered by a virtuoso in full native indian dress, this is Barrios. During one period Barrios performed under the name Agustín Barrios Mangoré. Mangoré was added as was the costume to honor his ancestory and a legendary latin american leader.
