Paula Azguime founded the Miso Ensemble, a flute and percussion duo, highly praised by critics and audience alike, in 1985. As a member of the Miso Ensemble, which is one of the most important Portuguese ensembles devoted to contemporary music, Paula Azguime has been performing widely both nationally and internationally. Composer, performer and improviser, she presents with the Miso Ensemble an original program that expands the repertoire for flute and percussion with several pieces. She has received commissions from public and private institutions as well as foundations. Moreover, she has been working as a multimedia artist, involved in developing new staging approaches for opera.
Besides her intense activity as a composer and instrumentalist, she actively promotes contemporary music through several ongoing projects that aim to increase the circulation of Portuguese new music. Furthermore, she is the executive director of the Música Viva Festival since 1992, as well as currently being the president of the Portuguese Section of the International Society of Contemporary Music.
She is, since 2002, the president and executive director of the Portuguese Music Information Centre.
