- Grawemeyer Award for Louis Andriessen
[posted 30 November 2010]The 2011 University of Louisville Grawemeyer Award for Music Composition has been awarded to Dutch composer Louis Andriessen for his multimedia opera “La Commedia”. The opera is based on Dante's "Divine Comedy", and was premiered in 2008 Holland Festival in Amsterdam, and has seen several more performances since then.
The prize for this award is $100,000. Also Andriessen is expected to visit the University of Louisville's School of Music next year for lectures and master classes.

- Oeuvre Prize for Louis Andriessen
[posted 30 January 2009]On 28 January the influential Dutch composer Louis Andriessen received the Johan Wagenaar Prize, named after the late-romantic Dutch composer. He received the prize, worth €15000, for his complete oeuvre.
Chairman of the jury Winnie Sorgdrager said that "each work is a musical as well as extra-musical statement", and that it " also remained really Dutch", with references to carillons, wind bands, Mondriaan, and Vermeer.
Andriessen has played a great role in the development of Dutch contemporary music, and also had and still has international successes with his music. He is also a popular teacher with many young composers all around the world.
Later this year Louis Andriessen's 70th birthday will be celebrated in The Hague (23 May) and Amsterdam (6 June).

- Louis Andriessen scores go to Switzerland
[posted 6 February 2007]The complete archive of Louis Andriessen will move to the Paul Sacher Foundation in Basel, Switzerland. All scores and related documents of the Amsterdam composer will become accessible to musicologists and others.
The Paul Sacher Foundation also hosts the archives of many other composers, like Luciano Berio (who was Louis Andriessen's teacher) and Igor Stravinsky.
Paul Sacher (1905–1999) was a conductor who became very rich after his marriage to a heir of the Hoffmann-La Roche medicine factory owner.
