Biography
Artistic personality of the Venetian music world, Ugo Amendola was born in Venice on August 28, 1917. Music soon became part of his life; as he said, “I began to love music from early childhood, when I imitated my father at the keyboard.” At the age of 12 Amendola entered the B. Marcello Conservatory and immediately showed talent far piano and composition; he obtained his diplomas in piano, composition, choral music and choral and orchestral conducting with the highest honours. He began teaching at the same conservatory in 1951; at first he taught theory and ear training, then harmony, counterpoint and composition, later he became assistant director, 1971-73, and finally full director until 1985. Over this entire period, after graduating from the Conservatory, Amendola pursued a demanding concert career as a pianist, as soloist and in duo with many soloists in Italy. He was often asked to preside or take part in juries for competitions. Amendola was, however, fundamentally a composer, as can be seen from his wide cultural background and stylistic originality, noteworthy not only in his piano works, his own instrument, but also in works for two or more instruments and for orchestra, works which have received prizes and recognition far and wide. His theoretical works list books on ear training and theory, on harmony and counterpoint, fugue, choral composition and analysis of classica1 music. His sudden death, February 20, 1995, come at a period of busy creation and left the eighth sonata, a ballet, a sonata far viola and piano and didactic works unfinished.

Description:
Winner Of Five Italian Oscars Including Best Director - Ricky Tognazzi
Sicily, 1992: When a high-profile judge and his bodyguard are brutally murdered, four reluctant young cops are assigned as 'La Scorta' - Italian for 'the escorts' - to protect the replacement prosecutor from Mafia assassins. But in a country where high level corruption and sudden violence are a way of life, the squad quickly find themselves outnumbered, outgunned and desperately out of time. Even if they can survive the daily threat of car bombs and ambushes, will personal conflicts and backroom betrayals blow apart the nation's most unlikely team of heroes?
Claudio Amendola (in his breakout performance) and Enrico Lo Verso star in this white-knuckle thriller from writer/director Ricky Tognazzi featuring a pounding score by Ennio Morricone and based on a true story of uncommon courage.

- You won't even mind the captions - this is a good film!Despite the fact that I knew none of the actors and don't speak Italian, this was a very credible film (and why shouldn't it be - it was a true story). The characters were well formed and very well played and the story was compelling. I think not having "big stars" in this production made it better, as equal attention could be payed to all. This is a film well worth seeing and I will probably watch it many times again.

- Special favors between businessmen and certain elected politiciansLA SCORTA, a movie released in 1993, played by Italian
actors, is very much a European movie, that rolls all into
one many aspects of a small, ephemeral microcosm,
surrounding an investigation into corruption and awarding
of contracts based on special favors between businessmen
and certain elected politicians, with the judiciary and
law enforcement caught in the crossfire.
It's not an action movie, considering that many personal,
human sides ... Read More

- A forgotten classic well worth rememberingLa Scorta is one of the best Italian films of the 90s, although that hasn't stopped it from disappearing from circulation for years until Blue Underground's DVD release. Unlike the Eurotrash which is that label's main stock-in-trade, this is a powerful and sober crime drama (rather than an out-and-out thriller) about the small group of bodyguards protecting a judge investigating mafia and government corruption in Sicily. It's certainly not a glamorous portrait: terminally underfunded, they only ... Read More
