His art song, “Spring and Fall,” was included on a CD released by the National Association of Composers, and his solo oboe piece, “Córdoba,” is due to be released later this year by noted oboist Ian Davidson.
Alon is a member of ASCAP and a past chapter president of Mu Phi Epsilon. Outside of classical composition, Alon has an interest in composing for film and musical theatre. Alon is also highly active as a teacher and currently teaches for Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, the American Festival for the Arts, the Michael P. Hammond Preparatory Program, as well as in Houston-area music schools. His interest in working with young people has also led him to write piano pieces for young pianists and a ballet based upon the original Peter Pan story. Recent projects include a solo piano piece commissioned by the Renée B. Fisher Foundation and a setting of Wilfred Owen’s “Dulce et Decorum Est” for baritone and string quartet, commissioned by Colm Estridge.
