Biography
Born on March 30th, 1982, Giovanni Albini studied Composition with Paul Glass and then at the Conservatory "G. Verdi" of Milan with Mario Garuti. He also followed courses, lectures and workshops by H. Lachenmann, E. Brusa, G. Manca, A. Smirnov, G. Giuliano, J. Casken and J. Weir. He composed music for ensemble, multimedia, festivals, theatre and short movies winner of international awards. His compositions and soundtracks won national and international composition prizes, and were executed and broadcasted in Italy, France, Spain, Lithuania, Scotland, Germany and Australia by international performers and orchestras (the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Verdi di Milano, string quartet of the BBC SSO, Duo46, Concordia C(h)ordis, Giulio Tampalini, Antonella Gianese, Barrie Webb, Duo Bonfanti, ... ). Multimedia and short movies with his soundtracks have been played in dozens of galleries around Europe (ARCO - Madrid, Galleria Permanente - Milano, … ), and the italian radio channel "Radio CLASSica" broadcasted a monographical program dealing with him.
He also graduated in guitar with Maurizio Preda and studied with Betho Davezac. Recently a lecture was given about his guitar compositions during the "Darwin Guitar Festival 2005". His theoretical research, supported by his degree in Maths (with thesis "Musical Structures: an algebraic Point of View") is mainly about Mathematical Music Theory; he has given several lectures in conservatories, high schools and universities.
